Decades of research indicate that the early years of life are a period of exponential brain development, characterized by great opportunity and vulnerability, dependent on the relationships and environment in which the child is growing. |
|
This innovative training curriculum focuses on giving early intervention providers strategies with which to prepare parents and caretakers for their vital role in building healthy brains. The curriculum fills a unique niche by providing a comprehensive understanding of how the brain develops, along with ways the provider can help families encourage healthy brain development in children from birth to 3 years old. |
Participants will learn skills and strategies for:
1) Understanding infant and toddler brain development (architecture and neurobiology) to inform their practice
2) Supporting language, cognition, prosocial behavior, and social-emotional development
3) Reducing toxic stress that can negatively influence brain development of very young children.
The Growing Brain: From Birth to 3 Years is comprised of seven 3-hour units. Unit 1: Brain Basics *Completion of the 7 units will result in up to 21 hours of Early Intervention Credit, 21 hours State licensure continuing educational credit for OT, PT. SW, SLP and Dietitian/Nutritionist offered and an IDTA endorsement that indicates the participant has additional knowledge and training in the growing brain of infants and toddlers The Illinois Early Intervention Training Program has approved this event for 3 hours in the area of Atypical Development, 7 hours in the area of Intervention and 11 hours in the area of Typical Development for a total of 21 hours of Early Intervention Credit. |
